History / Social Studies Project - Glenview is one of the Oakland schools that is participating in a History/ Social studies project sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of Education and the University of California at Berkeley. The purpose of this project is to develop new social sciences curricula integrating social science, technology, and the California State Frameworks. Ten teachers have participated in this project.
Open Court Reading (OCR) Training - The district wide Open Court Reading Program training began summer 2000. Glenview K-3rd grade teachers were among teachers from forty-five elementary schools that participated. OCR instruction began September 2000. Glenview's upper grade teachers will receive OCR program training summer 2001. Continued staff development training is ongoing throughout the school year.
SKILL (Science Knowledge Through Inquiry and Language Literacy) - Several Glenview teachers have participated in the SKILL institute which was offered through a partnership with the Oakland Unified School District and the University of California Berkeley's Lawrence Hall of Science and the Graduate School of Education. This institute focused on learning physical science content and inquiry strategies in order to promote student achievement in both science and literacy.
